Audiokicks in Studio

The first time I heard Audiokicks live was when I walked into their rehearsal in D-Range studio in Aberdeen. They were killing it. These guys were clearly putting in a lot of hard graft in advance of publishing their 2nd album later in the year. While their self titled debut album showed off solid credentials in the indie and alt/rock space, building on a years playing together and 3 EPs, their next release aims to showcase their personality as a trio.

The lineup in the studio (Iain Jamieson on vocals and guitar, Gavin Scott on bass, and Ian Brown on drums) have really managed to capture each of their personalities into a sound which has all the right hooks, and intuitive melodies. Most importantly, the new tracks just make you feel good - they stop you from doing that stupid thing you know you should really do, and spent 2 minutes losing yourself in the music.

This doesn't happen by itself, and the guys are both perfectionists and willing to roll with ideas that just seem right. Powerful vocals with a tone that maintains audible feeling is rare to hear pulled off at all volumes. Combine that with the rich texture of guitars underneath, and some clever variations on drums and you know that Audiokicks are on to a winner. I was fortunate to be able to get some time with them at the studio while they were recording the new album, despite snow shutting down gigs all around the city. Long story short, I can't wait to get hold of that album.

Audiokicks. See them live. You won't regret it.
